Cheeca Lodge All American Backcountry Fishing Tournament
This past weekend I fished the Cheeca Lodge All American Backcountry Fishing Tournament with two of my clients from Richmond, VA, Andrea and James Holmes.
Andrea and James have visited The Keys many times and have really become avid fisherman over the past few years. They originally booked me through Cheeca Lodge two years ago and we have been fishing together every time they get to The Keys.
Every trip they mention doing a tournament so when they got the email about the Cheeca All-American they called me right away and said "Let's do it!". This was their first tournament so they wanted to see what it was all about.
We ended Day 1 tied for the lead in the Team Division with 5 snook. Fishing and weather conditions were not as favorable on Day 2 and we only ended up with one snook after loosing a tarpon and then several snook to a shark that just wouldn't leave us alone. Overall they had an awesome time and they loved "being in the mix" throughout the two days.
In fact they had so much fun they are already planning a Holmes Fishing Tournament in March where they want to go head to head and compete against each other! With Andrea and James's love of fishing and competitive nature, I think this is just the start for them.
They might not have taken home the top prize but they did win Best Picture so they got to bring home artwork. And since Andrea was the only woman in the tournament we awarded her with Top Woman Angler :)
